For Educators
As educators, we play an essential role in the lives of children. At Zein Educational Consultancy, we believe that the role of a teacher has developed far beyond being the person who helps students acquire knowledge and competence. Our role involves counselling and mentoring children, building an understanding of and ability to navigate the world around them, and preparing them with the knowledge and attitudes needed to thrive in jobs that do not yet exist in today’s world.
Through our lectures and trainings, we aim to empower educators and bridge the gap between your passion and your career. By providing tools, sharing insights and discussing real life examples, we hope to spark the potential of teachers and help them achieve their purpose in the educational environment – and beyond.
Support for your educational institution.
Robbie Zein’s extensive experience working in and with educational institutions means she can tailor the content of both flexible training sessions and structured lectures to the needs of your organisation and its wider community.
Our services offered to educators can roughly be categorised as follows:
- Lectures: An effective approach, bringing our expertise and experience across to a large audience. As always, all the services offer – lectures inclusive – are tailor-made based on the client’s request. Lectures are especially popular amongst early years centres, schools, universities, international organisations and municipalities – and are available to both educators and the parent community.
- Training Sessions: Informative and hands-on learning approach tailored to the needs of the group. Whereas lectures are more structured following predefined topics along the way, training sessions are more flexible, gently following the trainees’ pace and areas of interest.
- Child Counselling Services: available to help and support educators in solving behavioural issues of children in their care.
A wide variety of lecture and training topics
Having worked with countless children and educators, Robbie can cover a wide range of topics. Generally, the topics relate to positive behaviour guidance methods, international childhoods and/or the intentional teaching of social-emotional competencies.
For example, through the training Supporting Children Growing Up Across Different Cultures educators learn what happens if they do not recognise the hidden diversities of international children in their care and how to support the challenges children face in a foreign environment. During the Promoting Social-Emotional Competencies lecture, educators explore how to create opportunities for children to solve problems and separate emotions from actions – and learn to discover the world from the child’s perspective. And by attending the Physical and Mental Wellbeing lecture, educators learn to identify the key factors influencing their wellbeing and implement simple steps that will help them thrive at work and at home.

Empowering children to learn
Social-emotional development is a pillar of (childhood) education – and is especially important for children living an (international) lifestyle filled with change. Social emotional skills – such as the ability to build friendships and relationships, collaborate with others and nurture a positive self-image – support children in their transition from early years education to school, university and in life beyond the classroom. Training educators how to build trust and nurture development at each stage of the educational system – for individuals and groups – benefits both children and educators.
The Choices System in Education
A regularly requested lecture topic for educators is the Choices System. The Choices System is a positive behaviour guidance system that is universally applicable within the home-, care- and educational environment. The Choices system contributes to children’s social-emotional development, which is so important as they grow up and become their own unique human-being. It is a positive and child-centred approach, offering children a fun and playful environment in which they learn the vital link between actions and their consequences. Once children become aware of this link, their self-esteem starts to grow as they discover a new level of responsibility within themselves, as well as enjoying more trust from their educators.
Moreover, the Choices System has been used in practice for over 12 years with outstanding success at Zein International Childcare – a renowned and leading international childcare provider in the Netherlands.

Educational scenario
Choices in educational surroundings:
Not only does Choices demonstrate to children that every choice they make has consequences – either positive or negative, in larger groups it also strongly encourages children to collaborate and solve issues.
Scenario:
A group of children is arguing during outside play. A loss of a Choice for each child could ultimately be a consequence – for example, to miss the upcoming outside play. However, one of the children steps up to resolve the argument and shortly after, the group resumes their game. Here, without any interference from a teacher, the children have learned the vital link between action and consequence. As a teacher you should always be available to guide the children, should they need it. The child that resolved the argument could gain a Choice. They can decide for themself what their Choice will be. It can be that they get to choose the main activity during the PE lesson or can take an extra turn to help the teacher in class.
Choices the book
Over the years, the Choices System developed into one that is universally applicable to children of all ages and all settings, be it day care, school, home or wherever they are. More information about the Choices System and how it has been slowly customised according to age group, from toddlers right up to teenagers, can be found in Robbie Zein’s book: ‘Choices – A Calm and Punishment Free Way to Raise Happy and Confident Children’.
